We went for Asher's two week check up on Tuesday and he's growing like a weed! He is now 7 lbs 3 oz. and he has grown 1/4th of an inch. Can anyone say basketball player? We are adjusting well at home. It has taken some getting used to, but we are adjusting nicely.
I went back to work today. :( It was tough to leave the little guy, but it was reassuring to know he was in good hands (and paws) with Jean-Marie and Piper. He is such a blessing in our lives. We love when he looks around the room at all the lights and then finally locks onto our eyes. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!
I had to sell a kidney to buy Pampers. (not really, but I might have to in the future.) Who would have thought he would burn through so many diapers and wipes! My goodness! We have become a little brand specific preferring Pampers Swaddlers. I would have went with the cheapest possible, but Asher had something different in mind. :) It's okay... he's worth it!

Happy "one week" Birthday!
Asher celebrated his one week birthday with a visit to the doctor to get weighed. With his weight already a little lower at birth and at discharge from the hospital, we were really hoping he had gained some. Well he did! He now weighs 6 lbs 12 oz. Now he's a bigger, little guy!
Things are going well around the house. He is becoming a pro at feedings and getting up during the night has gotten easier. Daddy sleeps a little more during the night when mommy gets up to feed. Then daddy gets up about 6:30 and takes care of the little guy until mommy gets up. So far so good.
The burning question... how has Piper been? Well, Piper has surprised us a lot. We didn't think she would be aggressive or jealous, but we had no idea she would act like this! At first she was scared of Asher. She would sniff him briefly then run away. For the first few days, she wouldn't even go into the nursery when we were in there with him. She still will not sit next to me on the couch when I have him. She's warming up to the idea of having him around. She is doing so well and continues to adjust very nicely. :)
We'll keep you updated from time to time. Thanks!

Wow!
Well as many of you know already, Jean-Marie gave birth to little Asher Elias at 2:02 a.m. on February 3, 2009. He weighed 6 lbs 4 oz. and was 20" long. It was a pretty smooth labor (not just my opinion, it really was pretty smooth!)
Asher is now one day old! :) Everyone is doing well. Yesterday Asher had a little bit of a rough morning. He was having some trouble keeping his temperature at a good level and he needed to go hang out under the warmer a couple of times. He also was having low blood sugar, but now we are all good! He is now keeping his temperature at a good level and his blood sugar count is great!
He is already developing a little personality of his own. He absolutely does not like to be naked and will certainly tell you how he feels about it. He loves to have his little right hand up next to his face when he is eating and will continue to persist until he gets what he wants (sound like anyone we know?)
New mom and Dad had not had any sleep the first day and elected to let Asher go to a sleepover in the nursery for a few hours. Nurse Vicki has been a lifesaver for us in so many ways. She has helped so much with breastfeeding and has taken great care of Asher when he was at the sleepover.
"Asher" or "little man"? We can't decide what to call him! We are working on it and have caught ourselves several times calling him any one of the cutesy names we come up with; "Little Man", "Peanut", "Buddy", etc.
All is well with the Hamilton family!!

Progress!! Hooray!
We had another appointment today and... good news!! Jean-Marie is 50% effaced and 1 cm dilated! This is wonderful news! We were worried that we would not have any changes since last week. Although the doctor can't predict nature, she tends to think that we are going to be pretty close to our due date of February 4th. She also said that she won't let JM go any longer than a week.
We are all ready to go! We are packing our bags and I am making sure that the camera and camcorder are all charged up. I am all set at school with plans and JM only has 3 more days to work and then she is done. Now we wait. It is a lot easier this week since we know we have made a little progress.
We are looking forward to letting all of you know about our new little baby as soon as they arrive. Daddy is such a computer geek, so his computer will be in tow to the hospital. Keep checking back... you never know when they will make their way out into the world!

... and we wait.
We're hanging in there! Jean-Marie had a Baby Shower this weekend at her parent's house. We received many great gifts! I think we are pretty well set except for a few odds and ends. Daddy is going to finish the dresser project TONIGHT! All is done except finishing lining the drawers and putting on the pull knobs. Wish me luck. Look for pictures soon!!
Jean-Marie had another doctor's appointment on Monday. Things are going well... not necessarily progressing, but going well nonetheless. The doctor did some measurements and she is not yet dilated. The waiting game begins...
I had a wonderful baby shower at school thrown by my wonderful team that I teach with. It was great! Great food, games, and gifts! We got our baby swing that we registered for and some really cute baby clothes as a surprise.

Jean-Marie's Quote of the Week
"I just know I'm going to have to be induced! It's going to be stubborn just like Tony!" (Tony is Jean-Marie's older brother who was born 3 weeks LATE)
